Krowne wins Special Award at 2013 Econ Awards for Bundesdruckerei Magazine

I have the Smiths’ tune of “Some girls are bigger than others” running in the background and funnily enough it actually relates to this post, because – some awards are also bigger than others. The Econ Award – unlike some of the other, more commercial, gatherings of the Corporate Publishing industry – are extremely relevant to both the CP agencies AND their customers. Why? Econ and the Handelsblatt Group are amongst the most important publishers of German business media. They are considered both competent and independent and their news publications are well known and respected within the target group of business, politics and culture. Both houses have bundled their competencies to host the Econ Corporate Communication Award, which has been awarded since 2007.

At last night’s 2013 Econ Awards ceremony, Bundesdruckerei’s Einmalig 13 Magazine was  – hurray – awarded the Special Award in the Magazine category.
The Judges felt that: “Einmalig 13 is an extraordinary piece, which combines many different elements on a creative and editorial level. Especially impressive is the innovative content presentation in different fold-out posters, which purposely breaks with the traditional magazine format. The topic of identification is being communicated consistently through exciting editorial content and the contributing authors and artists have managed to emotionally charge up this content, which makes it easier for the reader to grasp the relevance of the topics.

Hey, they even produced a little Special Award Winner  video!

With Einmalig, Bundesdruckerei positions itself as an innovative high-security company that recognizes issues which are relevant to society and the economy, promotes and facilitates progress, and stimulates public debate. Target groups include decision-makers and opinion leaders from both the public and the private sectors.
With issue #13, Krowne continued to live up to its ambitious standards, having once again implemented a unique artistic concept. On seven creatively designed sheets, Bundesdruckerei’s theme of the year, “Trust and identity in the digital world”, was approached from seven different angles.
The sheets were designed under the art direction of Andine Müller by internationally renowned illustrators and artists such as Gregory Gilbert-Lodge, Otto, Elena Kaludova and Matthias Seifarth. Short profiles of the artists are inserted in the publication. Editorial highlights under Editor-in-Chief Sepideh Honarbacht of Rat für Ruhm und Ehre, included the column by journalist Jörg Böckem (sheet 1), a debate between authors Christian Heller and Sascha Adamek on the subject of post-privacy (sheet 2), an overview of electronic identity documents in Europe (sheet 4) and an interview with the innovation guru J.P. Rangaswami (sheet 5).

As mentioned at the beginning – the recognition of the Econ judges actually means a lot to us and our customers and we are keeping fingers crossed for other exciting CP projects in the future.
